WILD RUNWAYS SPRING/SUMMER 2023 AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE

SETTING THE TRENDS FOR UPCOMING YEAR

If you have been paying attention to the Spring/Summer 2023 runways, then you have noticed the creativity and jaw-dropping shows by our beloved designers. We’ll take a look at the wild runways spring/summer 2023 and their significance in our world today with me, Talha Sakrani.

We have finally wrapped up another season of fashion shows with new spring/summer 2023 collections, and the runways did not disappoint. As we prepare our wallets to purchase some ready-to-wear pieces from the spring/summer 2023 runways, we cannot ignore the fact that the shows were quite memorable. Here are some of the wild runways for spring/summer 2023 and their significance.

Balenciaga’s The Mud Show

Jaws dropped and the traditional runway rules were challenged by The Mud Show by Balenciaga. Demna has been criticized on social media critics over his creative direction in his latest works. However, the creativity and progressive thinking is quite admirable.

As the models stomped through the mud on Balenciaga’s runway for spring/summer 2023, fashion icons were in awe—of the spring/summer 2023 collection as well as the thoughts behind the fashion show.

Demna, says:

“Individualism in fashion is downgraded to pseudo trends dictated by a post in stories of some celebrity of the moment.”

In the fashion world today, most people rely on social media influencers to sell their new collections, but in true Balenciaga fashion, Demna uses the most famous people on the planet and their daily wardrobes to express his vision. We have seen Kanye West wearing Balenciaga on and off the runways, as well as Daniel Kaluuya, Khloe Kardasian, Doja Cat, Offset, and many other influential individuals.

The music, the set, the pieces from the collection, and the people attending Balenciaga’s the Mud Show all spoke very deeply of society today. Demna argued that a garment can be made luxurious by the amount of construction that goes into it, but the opposite should also be true.

Gucci’s Twinsburg show

Gucci has been a top brand for years on end, and the spring/summer 2023 Twinsburg show by Alessandro Michele did not disappoint. Fashion lovers who attending the Gucci spring/summer 2023 show were seeing double. The ready to wear spring/summer 2023 was modeled by 68 pairs of twins. While people were seing double, none of the twins were actually identical; a true sign of dedication to the art of performance.

Alessandro was inspired by family. Being born to a twin (his mother and aunt are twins) the show clearly showed the notions of the original and the copy, individuality and identity. In today’s world, everything seems to be identical. It has become hard to identify real and point out copies. Alessandro wanted to make features of his designs emerge on completely identical bodies and the audience was stunned by the results.

Beate Karlsson AVAVAV

We have seen models trip on runways before, but it was never intentional. Beate Karlsson brought back AVAVAV for spring/summer 2023, and the fashion show had fashion lovers falling in love with the Nouveau Riche collection of ready-to-wear pieces and accessories that conceptualized the idea of success and failure.

The collection was inspired by money and the pursuit of it. The models wore glistening bathing suit with dollar sign emblems, sheath dresses, oversized hoodies and jackets with padded shoulders, and artisanal denim. The moonster boots were the start of the show, notably present in every tripping moment.

Beate revealed to Hypebeast that the collection, as well as the runway show, were an ironic observation of how we use wealth and richness as a power move. The moonster boots were a fun take on social and economic status, embracing today’s escapism through ‘fake it till you make it’ by enjoying fake richness.
